Meadowbank Gold Project, Nunavut, Canada
Project Scope
Year: 2006-2008
Client: Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited
Project Scope: 108-Kilometre All-Weather Road
In October 2006, Nuna M&T Services Ltd. commenced construction of Agnico-Eagle Mine’s Tehek Road, a 108-kilometre all-weather road from Baker Lake to the Meadowbank project (Nunavut’s longest all-weather road). Mobilization of a heavy equipment construction fleet, crushing plant, fuel, supplies, camp, and shop was accomplished using rail (Thompson to Churchill, Manitoba) and barges (Churchill, Manitoba, to Baker Lake, Nunavut).
The road required a crew of over 60 to drill, blast, crush, haul, and place over 1.7 million cubic metres ROQ. The road consisted of 119 culvert stream crossings and 9 single-span bridge river crossings, which required the installation of abutments and Acrow-style bridge decks.
Nuna M & T Services Ltd. also provided site services, and emulsion road construction.
